Our vision is Redefining What it Means to be a Runner. I say it all the time! Few days align with our vision like Global Running Day. Global Running Day is celebrated the first Wednesday of June, and it’s a day where we can all get together and celebrate how running. We don’t care if you walk. We don’t care if you crawl. We don’t care if you run like an Olympian! If you can move, then to us, you are a runner!
We’ve been celebrating since we bought the store in 2018. That first year it was just a group of us gathering for our standard weekly run. It was a little bigger group than we usually had, and some of you might recognize our old store on Cheyenne in the picture below. Those were the good old days. My ownership of RRRC was all of 3 months old and we were hosting our very first Global Running Day event on June 6, 2018!
Global Running Day, 2018
We decided to expand the event in year two, and we went to Lone Mountain. We did a loop around the park and took a picture. The group had grown quite a bit! I wasn’t at that event because for some reason the Running Industry decided to host a conference in Denver that week. I believe Drew took charge of this event and led everybody on a loop around Lone Mountain to celebrate Global Running Day!
Global Running Day 2019
We all know how Covid took the world by storm in 2020 and 2021. We didn’t have events those years as the normal was social distancing and staying apart.
In 2022 we took our Global Running Day event to Nevada Trails Park across from our new Southwest store. We had our friends from Diadora out and we had a blast running with everybody. We stayed at Nevada Trails Park in 2023 as well.
Global Running Day 2022
One thing that always strikes me about Global Running Day is the amount of people who shoe up despite the heat. It seems like Summer loves to arrive with a bang that first week of June. We start the event at 6pm right when it’s around 100 degrees. Still, people show up to support each other and to support running. There’s lots of smiles all around and everybody is having a good time.
Global Running Day 2023
As the event has grown we decided it was time to do things right. We’ve gotten a permit the last few years to host the event at James Regional Sports Park. Our friends from Hoka have come out and really made the event spectacular. They have demo shoes to try on, swag, and they even brought out Kona Ice for a snowcone after your hot run. This year we also had Sophia from GRACE Run Club provide cookies!
Global Running Day 2025
Of course, what event would be complete without DJ Prenup coming out and keeping everybody happy and moving. I have my own speakers and sometimes I just hook up a Spotify playlist and think everybody loves listening to REO Speedwagon as much as I do. Nobody, and I mean nobody in Las Vegas can keep up the energy like DJ Prenup. We love having him at our events and we try to book him when possible. If not, you get me and REO Speedwagon. Deal with it!
Seriously, though, we couldn’t do this without DJ Prenup and the energy he brings to the events. He’s getting more and more busy as he does events now with the Silver Knights and Golden Knights!
Our Global Running Day event was so big this year that we couldn’t get everybody in for a picture, but I did bust out the drone to take this video.
